Wilo Pump Families & Seal References
Wilo produces pump families for wastewater, sewage, water circulation, building services and industrial applications. Mechanical seal design can vary significantly between submersible pump motors, circulation pumps and other pump configurations, so the pump family and installed seal arrangement should be identified together.
SUBMERSIBLE & WASTEWATER
Wilo EMU Pumps
Wilo EMU pumps are widely used in wastewater, sewage, submersible and industrial pumping applications. Depending on the motor and pump version, the sealing system can use a mechanical seal on the fluid side together with a motor-side shaft seal, or two independently acting mechanical seals.

CIRCULATION & WATER PUMPS
Wilo PH / PB-H / HIPH / PHI
Selected Wilo PH, PB-H, HIPH and PHI pump applications can use 156-series replacement mechanical seals. The exact seal size and stationary-seat geometry should still be confirmed from the pump and removed seal.

SEAL REFERENCE RANGE
156 Series Mechanical Seals
The 156 mechanical seal family is available in multiple shaft sizes and can be used as a replacement reference for selected pump applications. Shaft diameter alone is not enough to confirm compatibility because stationary-seat dimensions, working length and materials may differ.
OTHER WILO APPLICATIONS
OTHER LOWARA PUMPS
Other Wilo Pump Configurations
Wilo has many additional wastewater, circulation, multistage and industrial pump families that are not yet listed in our current product range. For unlisted models, use the complete pump nameplate, old seal components and measured dimensions for replacement identification.
Identification priority: Pump model + seal position + old seal + dimensions
Why the Seal Position Matters on Wilo Pumps
On many Wilo submersible pump designs, the fluid-side seal and motor-side seal are not necessarily the same construction. Some versions use one mechanical seal and one rotary shaft seal, while others use two mechanical seals. Always confirm which sealing position is being replaced before selecting the seal.
How to Identify the Correct Wilo Mechanical Seal
Wilo replacement seals should be identified using the complete pump model, seal position, existing seal construction and physical dimensions together. This is especially important for submersible pumps where the fluid-side and motor-side seals may use different designs.
01 Identify the Wilo Pump Model
Record the complete Wilo pump or motor designation shown on the nameplate. For EMU equipment, include the full pump and motor reference whenever available.
02 Identify the Seal Position
Determine whether the removed seal is located on the fluid side, motor side or inside a double-seal arrangement. Do not assume both sealing positions use the same mechanical seal.
03 Measure the Existing Seal
Measure the shaft diameter, rotating assembly, stationary-seat outside diameter, seat thickness and working length. For cartridge or double-seal assemblies, also record the complete assembly dimensions.
04 Confirm Materials and Pump Service
Record the pumped medium, solids content, operating temperature and existing seal-face and elastomer materials. Wastewater and submersible pump applications can place very different demands on the seal compared with clean-water circulation pumps.
WILO SEAL IDENTIFICATION
Information to Send Us
For faster identification, provide as much of the following information as possible:
- Complete Wilo pump model
- Pump and motor nameplate photos
- Seal installation position
- Photos of the complete old seal
- Fluid-side or motor-side seal
- Shaft diameter
- Stationary-seat dimensions
- Seal working length
- Pumped medium and temperature
- Required quantity
Mechanical Seal Materials for Wilo Pumps
Mechanical seal materials should be selected according to the Wilo pump family, seal position, pumped medium and operating conditions. Wastewater and submersible pumps often require harder face materials than clean-water circulation applications.
WASTEWATER REFERENCE
Silicon Carbide / Silicon Carbide
Silicon carbide / silicon carbide is widely used on the fluid side of selected Wilo EMU wastewater and submersible pump configurations because of its wear resistance in demanding liquid conditions.
Wilo EMU FA reference: fluid-side mechanical seal SiC / SiC
MOTOR-SIDE OPTIONS
Carbon / Ceramic & SiC Options
Depending on the Wilo motor version, the motor-side sealing system may use a rotary shaft seal or a mechanical seal with carbon / ceramic or silicon carbide face combinations.
Always identify the sealing position before selecting materials.
SECONDARY SEALS
NBR, FKM & Other Elastomers
Secondary sealing materials vary according to the pump version, medium and operating conditions. NBR and FKM are both found in Wilo submersible pump sealing systems, while replacement 156-series seals may also be supplied with different elastomer options.
Confirm chemical compatibility and temperature before substitution.
Material Selection Should Follow the Application
Do not select a Lowara replacement seal only by shaft size or face material. Confirm the pump model, existing seal specification, pumped medium, temperature and any chemical exposure before choosing the final material configuration.
- Pump family and motor version
- Fluid-side or motor-side position
- Pumped medium and solids
- Operating temperature
- Existing face materials
- Existing elastomer material

Frequently Asked Questions About Wilo Mechanical Seals
Find answers to common questions about identifying and replacing mechanical seals for Wilo pumps.
How do I identify the correct mechanical seal for a Wilo pump?
Start with the complete Wilo pump and motor model, then confirm the seal position and existing mechanical seal dimensions. For submersible pumps, identify whether the seal is on the fluid side or motor side before selecting a replacement.
Do Wilo EMU pumps always use the same mechanical seal on both sides?
No. Depending on the motor version, a Wilo EMU pump may use a mechanical seal on the fluid side and a rotary shaft seal on the motor side, or two independently acting mechanical seals. The installed configuration should always be checked before replacement.
What sizes are available for Wilo EMU replacement seals?
Our current EMU replacement listing includes 35 mm, 50 mm and 75 mm configurations. Final compatibility must still be confirmed from the pump model, seal position and old seal dimensions.
Which Wilo pumps use the 156 mechanical seal?
Our current 156 replacement listing includes selected Wilo PH, PB-H, HIPH and PHI pump applications in 8 mm, 12 mm and 15 mm sizes. Other 156 sizes are also available, but the complete pump and seal dimensions should be confirmed before ordering.
Can you identify a Wilo mechanical seal from photos and dimensions?
In many cases, yes. Send the complete pump model, nameplate, seal position, photos of the rotating and stationary components, shaft size and key dimensions for comparison.
Are these original Wilo mechanical seals?
No. The products shown on this page are aftermarket replacement mechanical seals independently supplied by Hong Teng. Wilo, EMU and other manufacturer names or reference numbers are used only to identify compatible applications.
If you are unsure which Lowara seal is installed in your pump, send us the pump model, nameplate, old seal photos and dimensions for identification.
