APV Pump Families & Seal Arrangements

APV pumps have been produced in several pump families and generations, each using different mechanical seal designs, shaft sizes and seal arrangements. Identifying the pump family first helps narrow down the correct replacement seal before dimensions and materials are confirmed.

LEGACY APV SERIES

APV Puma Series

The APV Puma family includes earlier sanitary centrifugal pump designs such as 1½/2/7, 2/2/9, 2/2½/9, 2/3/9, 2/3/11 and 3/4/11. Replacement seal configurations can include 1-inch and 1.5-inch shaft arrangements depending on the pump version.

Typical replacement reference: P06 / APV-01A
Known shaft sizes: 1″ / 1.5″

SINGLE & DOUBLE SEALS

APV W / World Series

APV W / World pumps can use either a standard single mechanical seal or a flushed double mechanical seal arrangement. The correct replacement therefore depends not only on the pump model, but also on whether the existing pump uses a single or flushed seal chamber.

Single seal: 25 / 35 mm · T0W / Type 16
Double seal: 25 / 35 mm · T0WD / Type 16.DOUB

PASILAC ROSISTA SERIES

APV ZM Series

The ZM pump family originates from former Pasilac Rosista sanitary pump designs. Different ZM models use different shaft sizes, making the exact model particularly useful when selecting a replacement mechanical seal.

20 mm — ZMA, ZMB, ZMH1, ZMH2, ZMK1, ZMK2
25 mm — ZMS3, ZMS4
30 mm — ZMH4, ZMK3, ZMD

Typical replacement reference: 290 / T0R / Type 29

SANITARY CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS

APV V² / V2 Series

APV V² sanitary centrifugal pumps include 4V2, 6V2 and 8V2 configurations. Unlike some older APV pump families, the V² range was offered with several mechanical seal arrangements, so the complete installed seal should be checked before selecting a replacement.

Known models: 4V2 / 6V2 / 8V2
Current replacement listing: Type 293
Seal size: Verify from existing seal

What About APV W+ Pumps?

APV W+ is a different pump generation from the earlier W / World series and should not be identified using W-series seal references alone. SPX FLOW states that two shaft-seal sizes cover the standard W+ range and that the single mechanical seal can be rebuilt into a double mechanical seal for flushing or barrier-fluid service. Please confirm the complete W+ pump model before selecting a replacement seal.

Because APV pump families use different mechanical seal architectures, the pump series, exact model, shaft size and existing seal arrangement should be considered together when selecting a replacement.

How to Identify the Correct APV Mechanical Seal

APV pumps may use different mechanical seals even within the same pump family. The safest way to identify a replacement is to combine the pump model, existing seal arrangement and physical dimensions rather than relying on appearance alone.

01 Identify the Pump Family and Model

Start with the complete APV pump designation shown on the nameplate or pump documentation. Determine whether the pump belongs to the Puma, W / World, ZM, V2, W+ or another APV pump family.

02 Check the Seal Arrangement

Determine whether the pump uses a single mechanical seal, a flushed double mechanical seal or another seal configuration. This is especially important for APV W / World and newer sanitary pump designs.

03 Measure the Existing Seal

Measure the shaft diameter, stationary-seat outside diameter, seal working length and other key dimensions of the removed seal. These measurements help distinguish seals that may look similar but are not interchangeable.

04 Confirm Materials and Operating Conditions

Confirm the seal-face materials, elastomer type and process conditions whenever possible. The pumped medium, cleaning chemicals and temperature can affect the correct carbon, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide, EPDM or FKM configuration.

Seal Materials for APV Sanitary & Process Applications

Mechanical seal materials should be selected according to the APV pump series, seal arrangement, pumped medium, cleaning process and operating conditions. APV sanitary pump configurations commonly use carbon, silicon carbide and suitable elastomers, but the exact combination varies by pump family and application.

COMMON FACE PAIR

Carbon / Silicon Carbide

Carbon / silicon carbide is a common mechanical seal face combination in APV sanitary centrifugal pumps. It provides a practical balance of running characteristics and wear resistance for many clean liquid and process applications.

APV examples: Standard shaft-seal configuration on W+ and Wi+ pumps; also used in Wa+ double mechanical seal configurations.

WEAR-RESISTANT OPTION

Silicon Carbide / Silicon Carbide

Silicon carbide / silicon carbide face combinations are available for selected APV pump configurations where increased wear resistance or different process conditions make a harder face pairing preferable.

APV examples: Optional on W+ and Wi+ pumps, and available on the product side of selected Wa+ double-seal arrangements.

SECONDARY SEAL MATERIALS

EPDM, FKM & Other Elastomers

Elastomer selection is especially important in sanitary pump service because compatibility depends on the product, cleaning chemicals, temperature and sanitation requirements. EPDM and FKM are both used in APV pump configurations, while some applications may use encapsulated elastomer options.

Examples: EPDM is standard on several APV W+ and Wa+ configurations, while Wi+ commonly uses FKM as standard with EPDM available as an option.

Material Selection Should Follow the Application

Do not select an APV replacement seal by material name alone. The correct combination should be confirmed from the existing seal specification and the actual process conditions.

For sanitary and food-processing applications, material compatibility should be considered together with cleaning requirements and any applicable hygienic or food-contact requirements. Confirm the required seal specification before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions About APV Mechanical Seals

Find answers to common questions about identifying, selecting and replacing mechanical seals for APV pumps.

How do I identify the correct mechanical seal for an APV pump?

Start with the complete APV pump model and pump family, then confirm the installed seal arrangement and physical dimensions. Useful information includes the pump nameplate, photos of the old seal, shaft diameter, stationary-seat dimensions and seal working length. APV pumps within the same family may use different shaft sizes or seal configurations, so appearance alone is not sufficient for final identification.

APV W / World and APV W+ belong to different pump generations and should not be treated as the same seal system. Earlier W / World pumps commonly use 25 mm or 35 mm single or flushed double mechanical seal configurations, while the later W+ range uses a different shaft-seal design. Always identify the complete pump model before selecting a replacement.

No. APV W single mechanical seals and flushed double mechanical seals use different seal arrangements. A pump with a standard single-seal configuration should not automatically be fitted with a double-seal replacement, and vice versa. Confirm the existing seal chamber and seal arrangement before ordering.

Which APV pumps use the P06 mechanical seal?

P06-type replacement seals are associated with selected APV Puma pump applications. Known Puma references include models such as 1½/2/7, 2/2/9, 2/2½/9, 2/3/9, 2/3/11 and 3/4/11. Different shaft configurations exist within the range, so the old seal and shaft size should still be checked before ordering.

In many cases, yes. Clear photos of the complete old seal, rotating component and stationary seat, combined with the pump model and key dimensions, can significantly narrow down the replacement. The most useful measurements are the shaft diameter, stationary-seat dimensions and seal working length.

No. The products shown on this page are aftermarket replacement mechanical seals independently supplied by Hong Teng. APV, SPX and other manufacturer names or seal reference numbers are used only to identify compatible pump applications and replacement references.

If you are unsure which APV seal is installed in your pump, send us the pump model, nameplate, old seal photos and dimensions for identification.
