How to Select a Replacement Mechanical Seal for EagleBurgmann Applications

Selecting a replacement mechanical seal for an EagleBurgmann reference application should not be based on the model name or shaft diameter alone. Different sizes and variants may use different working lengths, stationary seats, seal face materials and sealing arrangements.

Hong Teng supplies replacement mechanical seals for selected reference models including M3N, M7N, M74-D, H7N, H74-D, HJ92N, H12N, MG1, MG12, MG13, MG9, EA560, BT-AR, BT-ARP, BT-RN, AX05, MFL85N, MFLWT and Cartex Single applications.

Before ordering, compare the existing seal with the replacement and confirm the main installation dimensions and operating conditions.

Confirm the Reference Model

Start with the reference model marked on the existing documentation, seal package or maintenance record. Models such as M3N, M7N, MG1 and HJ92N provide an important starting point, but the model name alone does not always confirm complete interchangeability.

The same reference family may be available in several shaft sizes, material combinations or stationary seat arrangements. If the original model cannot be confirmed, keep the complete old seal and take clear photos of both the rotating and stationary components before removing or discarding them.

Check the Shaft Diameter and Working Length

Measure the shaft diameter where the mechanical seal is installed and confirm the overall working length of the rotating seal assembly. These are two of the most important dimensions when matching a replacement.

Do not assume that two seals are interchangeable simply because they use the same shaft diameter. For example, seals from the MG1, MG12 and MG13 families may appear very similar but can use different installation lengths or stationary seat combinations.

When possible, measure the old seal in its assembled condition and record the dimensions before installation.

Verify the Stationary Seat

The stationary seat is just as important as the rotating seal unit. Check the seat outside diameter, inside diameter, thickness and the shape of the elastomer or gasket used to install it.

Two replacement seals may have similar rotating components but use different stationary seats, which can prevent correct installation or change the final working length. Always compare the complete rotating and stationary assembly before confirming compatibility.

Clear photos of the stationary seat together with its main dimensions are especially useful when the original reference number is uncertain.

Select the Correct Seal Face Materials

Seal face and elastomer materials should be selected according to the pumped fluid, operating temperature, pressure and the presence of abrasive particles.

Carbon and ceramic combinations are commonly used for clean water and general pump service, while silicon carbide or tungsten carbide may be preferred for more demanding, abrasive or chemical applications. Elastomers such as NBR, EPDM and FKM also have different temperature and chemical resistance characteristics.

A seal that is dimensionally correct can still fail prematurely if the materials are unsuitable for the operating medium. Provide the pumped fluid and operating conditions whenever material selection is required.

Check Single, Dual or Bellows Seal Configuration

The sealing arrangement must also match the original application. M3N and M7N are examples of pusher-type seal references, while MG1 and related models use elastomer bellows designs. MFL85N and MFLWT-type seals use metal bellows for more demanding temperature or process conditions, while Cartex Single uses a pre-assembled cartridge configuration.

Dual seals such as M74-D or H74-D require additional attention because they may operate with an external buffer or barrier fluid system. The gland arrangement, connection ports and auxiliary sealing system should be checked before replacement.

Never replace a dual seal with a single seal, or a metal bellows seal with an elastomer bellows design, based only on similar dimensions.

Frequently Asked Questions About EagleBurgmann Replacement Mechanical Seals

Are these original EagleBurgmann mechanical seals?

No.Hong Teng supplies independently manufactured replacement mechanical seals for selected EagleBurgmann reference applications. Our products are not represented as original, authorized or endorsed EagleBurgmann products. EagleBurgmann model names are used only to help customers identify compatible applications.

The reference model is an important starting point, but we recommend confirming the shaft diameter, working length, stationary seat dimensions and seal configuration before ordering. Some reference families are available in different sizes and material combinations.

Our current replacement range includes selected M3N, M7N, M74-D, H7N, H74-D, HJ92N, H12N, MG1, MG12, MG13, MG9, EA560, BT-AR, BT-ARP, BT-RN, AX05, MFL85N, MFLWT and Cartex Single-type applications.

Yes. Clear photos of the complete mechanical seal, rotating unit, stationary seat and any visible markings can help with identification. For better accuracy, also provide the shaft diameter, working length and stationary seat dimensions.

Material options can be selected according to the pumped fluid and operating conditions. Depending on the application, seal faces may include carbon, ceramic, silicon carbide or tungsten carbide, while elastomer options may include NBR, EPDM or FKM. Final material selection should be based on the medium, temperature and operating conditions.

Please provide the EagleBurgmann reference model if known, shaft diameter, required quantity, operating medium and available seal dimensions. Photos of the old rotating seal and stationary seat are also helpful for compatibility confirmation.
